Getting Personal at The Yard

Last Thursday night at the The Yard theatre I experienced a type of theatrical performance that was very foreign to me. Usually when I go to the theatre I see actors pretending to be disparate people dealing with an assemblage of fictional obstacles and tribulations. It was refreshing to see people essentially playing themselves and telling real stories from their own lives. Both Makishi and the Hutsons' performances were very intimate and required a great deal of vulnerability from there performers. It was clear to me that both acts were made with substantial amount of love and care, and I appreciated seeing the complex inner lives of these artists presented in such creative and entertaining ways.
