My Saturday Night @ Duckies
I have never felt more invisible than when standing in the midst of a sea of horny middle aged gay men, however this invisibility was not necessarily a bad thing, it bestowed me with a level of emotional distance that enabled me to thoroughly observe my surroundings. Although both theatrical performances were definitely eye-catching I found myself more interested by the passionate reactions and uproarious behavior it elicited from the audience, and as a result I felt the setting to be as much part of the theatrical experience as what was happening on stage. Although both the performance by Mamuro and TV TV were entertaining in and of themselves, I don't think the acts would have have produced the same level of enthusiasm in any other setting. This unique theatre experience at Duckies showed me how crucial an audience is to a performance and how they essentially control whether a performance is a triumph or an abject failure.
